Job Title: Construction Manager

Reports to: Executive Director

The Construction Manager oversees all aspects of the Construction Program, including planning, budgeting, procurement, and quality control. He/she is responsible for ensuring that all construction work adheres to building codes and specifications and that safety guidelines are followed.

The Manager interacts with and supervises volunteers, coordinates with staff for volunteer coverage, and communicates with the Executive Director. They will also have administrative responsibilities, such as coding invoices, obtaining permits and inspections, completing paperwork needed for grants and ensuring that all necessary licenses and insurance are in place.

The Manager must have knowledge of construction techniques and principles, state and local building codes, and good interpersonal and communication skills. Physical ability to work in a construction setting is required. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Construction:

  • Collaborate with the volunteer construction team to manage all aspects of the Construction Program
  • Oversee construction process and develop detailed plans for each project
  • Create schedules and budgets, procure materials, and ensure quality workmanship
  • Evaluate land/properties for new construction or rehabilitation projects and plan for future construction cycles
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed
  • Communicate with staff and provide administrative oversight
  • First-aid training for emergencies on-site, and ability to perform in a construction setting
  • Meets all long and short term goals established by the Executive Director and construction committee.

Volunteers and Partner Families:

  • Supervise volunteers ranging from beginners to those skilled in construction.
  • Treats Partner Families and volunteers with respect and dignity. Strives to make their construction involvement meaningful and reminds house leaders, crew leaders and construction staff of this ministry requirement.
  • Understands elements that contribute to successful volunteers and helps ensure that volunteers have a consistently good environment thus motivating them to return.
  • Anticipates problems and issues typical of this ministry and personally acts on same if necessary to help ensure schedules are met and work plans enabled.
  • Ensures that communications to volunteers and partner families are accurate and timely.
  • Identifies volunteer jobs/needs not currently filled and work with volunteer coordinator to match needs with appropriate volunteers.
  • Works with Volunteer Coordinator to prepare for volunteer workers at designated work site.
  • Trains all volunteers utilizing knowledge from crew leaders and construction team.

Required Skills/experience physical requirements

  • Experience in the residential construction industry, safety and first-aid training for emergencies on-site, and ability to perform in a construction setting
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Dedication to and ability to articulate the mission and core values of Habitat for Humanity of Madison County with an understanding understand the big picture of the HFHI mission and know that construction is only a part of the larger goal.
  • Be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions.
  • Good anticipatory abilities and personally act on same as need arises.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Must pass criminal back and sexual offender background checks.

Full-time equivalent employment status with competitive pay and paid vacation and holidays, compensation dependent on experience.
