HOMEOWNERSHIP MORTGAGE INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest in the Habitat for Humanity of Madison County Homeownership program.
We will be holding public information meetings at the Anderson Public Library On Tuesday, March 4 at 11AM and 6PM in the Chief Anderson Room. These meetings are not mandatory, but recommended and applications will be available at the end of each session.
Our application period has been set! We will begin accepting completed mortgage applications on Monday, March 10, 2025. Submission times are ONLY Mondays 2PM-5PM and Wednesdays & Fridays 11AM-2PM through Friday, March 28, 2025. If one of these times does not work for you, please call to make an appointment. Our Family Selection Committee is tasked with evaluating mortgage applicants in the following categories:
Homeowner Selection Criteria
- Need for housing
- Current housing is inadequate or too expensive
- Unable to obtain a conventional mortgage
- Ability to pay the Habitat mortgage
- Steady income within the guidelines provided
- Current on all open accounts including utilities
- No unpaid liens or judgments
- Have not declared bankruptcy in the last 2 years
- Have not had a real estate foreclosure in the last 5 years
- Willingness to partner with Habitat to fulfill partnership requirements
- Complete 200 hours of sweat equity including construction and homebuyer financial education classes
- Contribute a minimum $500 down payment
- Live where Habitat is working
- Community involvement hours and advocate for families in the future
